Origins at the University of Florida
Delta Tau Delta, founded nationally in 1858, established its presence at the University of Florida as part of the early growth of Greek life in Gainesville. The Epsilon Zeta Chapter brought together students from across Florida and beyond who were looking for brotherhood, structure, and personal development during their college years.
Life in the Early 1980s (1981–1983)
The early 1980s were an especially active period for Epsilon Zeta. Between 1981 and 1983, Delta Tau Delta brothers participated in IFC events, intramural and club sports, student organizations, and campus service projects. Chapter life often included full calendars of meetings, socials, philanthropy, and informal gatherings at the house and around Gainesville.
Many alumni from this era remember a strong balance of academics and involvement. Brothers pursued a wide range of majors—from business and engineering to education and the liberal arts—while staying connected through shared chapter responsibilities and traditions. The composites from these years, featured on the Home page, capture not just faces but an entire rhythm of life at UF.
Slugfest ’83 & Campus Tradition
One of the most memorable events associated with the 1981–1983 period is Slugfest ’83, a student-led boxing tournament that showcased the competitive spirit and camaraderie of Delta Tau Delta and the UF Greek community. The event drew participants and spectators from across campus and quickly became part of the oral history of the chapter.

Continuing Impact & Alumni Connection
Over the years, Epsilon Zeta alumni have gone on to careers in business, law, medicine, education, public service, and the military. Many brothers credit their time in Delta Tau Delta with helping them develop leadership skills, personal discipline, and friendships that lasted well beyond graduation.
For the University of Florida, the chapter has contributed to the broader culture of involvement, service, and school spirit that defines the Gator experience. Whether through philanthropy, campus leadership, or professional networks, Delts continue to represent UF and the fraternity’s values in their communities.
